The changes at a glance:
Raspberry Pi® 5 B Since September 2023, he has been part of the Raspberry Pi® family. The following improvements/changes were made to the 5B:
1) The CPU has been upgraded to a 2.4 GHz ARM Cortex-A76 Quad-Core CPU (2-3x faster than its predecessor).
2) VideoCore VII graphics processor
3) 2x MIPI connectors (2x DSI/CSI)
4) 5V/5A DC power supply via USB-C™ with Power delivery support
5) New connections: PCIe 2.0 interface for e.g. SSD M.2 storage devices, on/off switch, RTC battery connection, additional UART-connection, additional fan connection
RP1
Raspberry Pi 5 comes with a built-in RP1 I/O controller developed by Raspberry Pi. With the help of USB 3.0, the Raspberry 5 has a larger total bandwidth, and WAS enables a faster transfer speed. The connectors for the camera and DSI display are interchangeable, so that you can have one or two same connectors each.
More than twice as fast and infinitely much fluid
The Raspberry Pi 5 has the Broadcom BCM2712 Quad-Core Arm Cortex A76 with 2.4 GHz processor, and is up to three times faster than its predecessor generation.
All on board the PCI Express
This extension of the Raspberry Pi enables you to connect an M.2 SSD to your Raspberry Pi in order to enable fast data transfer and super-fast start-up.
Completely backward compatible with your earlier projects
The Raspberry Pi® 5 B remains the same in the basic shape and size, so you Raspberry Pi® 5 B can easily add your new one to your old projects for an upgrade. New housings are necessary due to the new arrangement of the interface and changes of the connections. Besides that, existing accessories (except FOR Raspberry Pi PoE) are fully compatible with the new Raspberry Pi.
Your new desktop
The speed and performance of the new Raspberry Pi® 5 B have been significantly improved compared to previous models. Whether you are editing documents, browsing the Internet with a number of open tabs, juggling spreadsheets or creating presentations. You will find that the work is smooth and efficient – on a smaller, more energy efficient and more cost-effective level.
Extended working area – additional second screen can be connected
Thanks to the two micro-HDMI connections, you can operate up to two additional monitors, beamers or even TV-devices on your Raspberry Pi® 5B – and that too in 4K!
Quiet and energy efficient
The fan-less, energy-efficient Raspberry Pi® runs silently and consumes much less power than other desktop PCs.
